About Nicholas Todhunter:
Nicholas "Nick" Todhunter is a British artist, art historian, writer, podcaster and filmmaker whose work bridges classical painting and contemporary culture. Trained in Florence, he developed a deep grounding in traditional realism and in the techniques and visual language of the Old Masters.
His paintings explore perception through intensely worked portraits and landscapes. Drawing on close observation, light, colour and the physical process of painting, his work considers how an image can move beyond straightforward representation to capture something of a person, place or moment.
Alongside his studio practice, Nick has developed a wide-ranging body of work dedicated to making art history engaging and accessible. He is the creator of The Lives of the Artists and Portrait Paintings Daily, media channels through which he brings artists, artworks and historical periods to life using storytelling and technical understanding. His work across film, podcasting and writing reflects a particular interest in how artists worked, what shaped their lives and why certain paintings continue to hold our attention.
Nick has exhibited internationally and his work is held in private collections. He divides his time between Somerset and Venice, two places whose landscapes, architecture and cultural histories continue to inform his practice.
Hosted by Distil Coworking Somerset, in The Secret Life of Portraits, Nick will explore the art of portraiture, drawing on his own experience as a painter and his knowledge of art history. A selection of his original work will also be on display and available to purchase.
